Today's social networking platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, give us the opportunity to connect with not only friends and family, but celebrities and dignitaries whom we would normally not have access to. However, is social networking such a new idea?

Were the prehistoric cave dwellers basically tweeting about their day when they chiseled pictures into the cave walls? Although today's networking is done electronically, this form of social communication could have been been carried out in different forms throughout history.
